2016 was a tough year for me. Some of my favorite musicians died this year. They say that it happens in threes. And for me the three that affected me the most were Prince, Glenn Frey, and David Bowie. I had the privilege of seeing Prince live four times. I saw Glenn Frey play with the Eagles once, but I never was able to see David Bowie. One of my favorite Christmas songs I’ve been listening to a lot this year is the duet David Bowie did with Bing Crosby on The Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth. This is also a favorite of my grandmother, which just proves that I have one of the coolest Grannies in the world.
In 2017 we are exploring the possibility of a project with another charity organization. I’m not going to give away the spoiler just yet since it is still a work in progress but it will be really cool and unique. I’m always looking for people who can partner with us to save the world. We are constantly making new partnerships and connecting churches all around the world together. And lately I’ve been listening to another song by David Bowie, Heroes, and occasionally the cover the Wallflowers did, which is pretty good too. The lyric that I keep hearing in my head over and over again is the hook of the song: “We can be heroes, if just for one day.”
If you read my last post then you would be familiar with my struggle about wanting recognition for some of the work that I do. I mean it’s true, I have made some personal sacrifices but not as many as some people have. And to be honest, the people who donate their hard-earned money in order to partner with us make many sacrifices as well. God calls us all to specific places in life and He calls us to be faithful with the resources He has given us. I am a firm believer that God doesn’t call the equipped but He equips those He calls. My life is just one proof of this truth. But sometimes it’s nice to be recognized for all that we are doing. We can celebrate in the victories. And we should, as long as God gets all the glory.
One of the many great things about God is that He does bless us, whether we deserve it or not. And it is up to us to take that blessing and either consume it for ourselves or pay it forward. And when we pay it forward and we see the outcomes and how it blesses others we can celebrate, not because of how great we are but because of how great God is.
Has God blessed you this year? My guess is that the answer to this question is yes. How have you paid it forward? If you are looking for a way to pay it forward as the year comes to a close pray about how God can use you to help equip us in the work He has called us to do. We are looking for people to join us as monthly partners in 2017. Pray about joining us as a monthly partner and pray about joining us abroad for a project.
A truth God continues to teach me is that no one can out give Him. Join us this year as we celebrate together the victories He has in store for us. Then we can be heroes, if just for one day.
